Will an iPhone 16 Case Fit an iPhone 17? Phone Case Compatibility Explained

Short answer: no. An iPhone 16 case won't fit an iPhone 17 properly, and the same goes for almost every jump between phone generations. Here's why, and how to avoid ordering the wrong case.

Why cases don't carry over between models

Even when two phones look similar, small differences stop a case from fitting:

• Camera layout. Camera bumps change shape almost every year. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max moved to a camera plateau across the full width of the back, so a 16 Pro case would cover part of it.
• Size. A difference of a millimetre or two means a case is either loose or won't close around the phone. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, for example, are slightly bigger than the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
• Buttons. Newer iPhones added the Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and later) and Camera Control (iPhone 16 and later). A case made for an older phone won't have openings in the right place.
• Ports. The iPhone 15 moved from Lightning to USB-C, and the port opening changed with it.

The pairs people mix up most often

"Plus" and "Pro Max" models are always a different size from the standard and Pro models of the same year, so they need their own case too.

The one exception on our store

Our Galaxy S25/S24 glitter case is listed for both the standard Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24. It doesn't fit the Plus or Ultra versions. Every other case we sell is made for one model only.

How to order the right case first time

1. Check your exact model. On iPhone go to Settings → General → About → Model Name. On Samsung go to Settings → About phone. Not sure? Our guide Which iPhone do I have? walks you through it.
2. Shop by model. Use the model collections (for example iPhone 17 cases or Galaxy S25 Ultra cases) so you only see cases that fit.
3. Read "Will it fit my phone?" Every product page lists the exact model the case fits and the models it doesn't.
