Which iPhone Do I Have? How to Find Your Exact Model (iPhone 14 to 17)

Phone cases are made for one exact model. An iPhone 16 case won't fit an iPhone 16 Pro, and an iPhone 15 case won't fit an iPhone 14 properly. So before you buy a case, it's worth taking 10 seconds to check exactly which iPhone you have.

The quickest way: check in Settings

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General, then About.
  3. Look at Model Name. It shows the exact name, for example "iPhone 16 Pro Max".

That's the name to match when you shop. If your phone won't turn on, the model name is also printed on the original box.

iPhone 14 series (2022)

  • iPhone 14 and 14 Plus: two cameras placed diagonally, a notch at the top of the screen, a Ring/Silent switch and a Lightning charging port. The Plus is the larger of the two.
  • iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max: three cameras, the pill-shaped Dynamic Island at the top of the screen instead of a notch, and a Lightning port.

iPhone 15 series (2023)

  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus: diagonal dual cameras like the 14, but with the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port. If your phone charges with USB-C and has two diagonal cameras, it's a 15 or 15 Plus.
  • iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max: three cameras, USB-C, and an Action button in place of the Ring/Silent switch.

iPhone 16 series (2024)

  • iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: the two cameras sit vertically, one above the other. They also have an Action button and a new Camera Control button on the side.
  • iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max: three cameras plus Camera Control. They're slightly bigger than the 15 Pro models, so 15 Pro cases don't fit.

iPhone 17 series (2025)

  • iPhone 17: vertical dual cameras and Camera Control.
  • iPhone Air (also sold as "iPhone 17 Air"): Apple's thinnest iPhone, with a single rear camera in a wide camera bar across the top of the back.
  • iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max: three cameras in a camera plateau that stretches across the full width of the back. This shape is new, so iPhone 16 Pro cases won't fit.

Why the exact model matters for a case

Each model has a slightly different size, camera layout and button position. A case for the wrong model can block the camera, cover the Action button or Camera Control, or simply not close around the phone. Even "Plus" and "Pro Max" versions of the same year are different sizes.
